The idea for Quilt Mania originally began as an exhibition of contemporary Japanese quilts at the Crow Collection of Asian Art. The idea soon evolved into something much grander, however, through a series of discussions with area museum directors and curators on the importance of collaboration, interpretation and community awareness. As these discussion developed Dr. Marian Ann Montgomery having deep connections with the textile/quilt world and acting as Guest Curator for the Crow exhibition was invited to take on the role of Project Coordinating Curator. Quilt Mania I saw eleven Dallas Cultural institutions mount collaborative exhibitions of quilts. The support from the quilt industry and community was so extensive and the visitors came from such distances that the cultural community decided to mount Quilt Mania II.
